Five K's

Guru Gobind Singh gave the Sikhs the symbols of the Khalsa known as the Panj Kakke or 'Five Ks'. These symbols must be worn by both female and male members of the Khalsa.

Kesh
Uncut hair is a gift from God. Sikhs do not cut or shape thier hair and to do so would be a sign of human vanity.

Khanga
The Comb is used to keep the long hair tidy. Hair is kept clean by regular washing and combing. Men do not shave their beards, so it is often tied neatly.

Kara
This is a plain steel band worn on the right wrist. It reminds Sikhs, that God is eternal and of unity, Steel is a sign of Strength.

Kirpan
The sword is a symbol of personal freedom. Sikhs are reminded of thier duty to protect and defend their faith.

Kashera
These are underclothes worn by both men and women, They are a constant reminder in the need for self-control in all they do.
